7th season MMC cast (1994) Disney Channel
Matt; bottom right
"When I look
back at when I would watch the Mickey Mouse Club
on TV, wishing I could be part of the show, it's
hard to believe that I am actually here."
- Matt
age 12
Since becoming a
member of the Mickey Mouse Club
in 1991, Matt has
discovered a new-found love of
dancing. In the off-season, he enrolls in classes
and practices a lot on his own. The dancing is
now one of his favorite parts of the show.
Getting good grades is a priority for Matt. "I
have every intention of going to college because
you can always depend on a degree," he says.
Writing is another of Matt's talents, and he has
written quite a collection of short stories and
poems. One of Matt's favorite pastimes at school
is playing piano in the jazz band.
In 1993-1994, While with the all
new Mickey Mouse Club, Matt traveled to numerous cities on a TARGET store promotional tour with 6 other MMC members to promote the MMC album. There they performed tracks from the MMC album and signed autographs during "Meet and Greets" with their fans after the concerts.
Matt Morris,
an energetic 14
year old from
Denver, Colorado, has been singing since the age
of two. His love for singing and performing is
strong and he plans to work hard toward a career
in music. "Being on the 'Mickey Mouse Club' is
fun, exciting and a chance to start a great
career," Matt says. "It's a wonderful
experience." Matt also plans to make his mark in
the music business by writing and singing his
"own kinda of music". "What I feel--I sing. When
I feel something, I express it through music," he
says.
Matt keeps himself
busy; he enjoys water sports,
bike riding, movies and shopping for vintage
clothing. Friends describe Matt as fun-loving and
unique. Matt says, "My family is a very big part
of what I am doing," and he is sure to mention
his special relationship with his grandmother.
"She has always been like a friend to me," he
adds.
Matt's Favorite
song on MMC: " I really like them
all. Probably my two favorites are 'Cool Love'-I
just like the groove in that song-and 'Goodbye
Doesn't Mean I'm Gone."
If he weren't
singing or acting: Matt would be
"either a journalist or a writer"
"My father sings
professionally and my mom used
to sing professionally, so singing was always a
big part of my family. I used to go on tour with
my father in the summer, so I'd get experience
with him. I always had a real love for show
business, so when I found out auditions for the
Mickey Mouse Club I was like, "Alright, I finally
get to do something!" That kinda of how I got
into it!"
The Best Thing
About MMC:
The cast that I work with. I've really grown up
here. I started when I was 11. It's been 4 years.
These have been my high school years. Some people
have their high school friends, and this has been
the group of people that I've really grown up
with.
The Changes In The
Show:
I think the changes have been really good. It's a
fresh new kind of show. It's a great idea. I hope
people enjoy it 'cause I know we enjoy it when we
do it. It has a really live feel. It's not too
different. We kept a lot of the same things, but
it has a fresh new feel to it.
How Have You
Changed?:
One thing, when I first came, I couldn't dance a
step. I couldn't move. I was pretty bad. (laughs)
Thanks to a lot of the people who I work with who
have really helped me through it. Also it's given
me a lot of knowledge of how things work in TV.
So, one of these days, when I go out and do my
own thing, it's gonna give me a step ahead of
those who haven't done things like this
before.
Favorite
Character:
Well, there's one character that I play in a
sketch called "Fort Brain". This character has a
screechy voice, and I have one line that I'm
always saying. I always have to say " We're all
gonna die," and I scream it. It's a fun sketch
'cause it always gets the audience
going.
Support From The
Cast:
They (the older cast members) have really helped
me. I don't think I would have been the same
person I am today if it hadn't been for them.
Tony, Dale, Rhona, Jennifer, JC...I can't tell
how everybody has made an impact on my life.
They've shown me things I wouldn't have seen if I
had been in regular high school or back at
home.
Most Memorable
Moment:
It was the 5th season, my 2nd season there. We
were doing "MMC Rocks The Planet" and I was doing
this song by Boyz II Men, "It's So Hard To Say
Goodbye To Yesterday". There was a moment in the
song where everyone stops, and I stopped and took
a little pause. I kinda extended the pause and
let the audience go wild. It was a really great
feeling,
because it was almost a peak. It was when I
realized that this is something that I'm always
gonna do. It's just something that makes me so
happy, 'cause I was just sitting watching the
audience go crazy and thinking, "How can it get
better than this?"
The Fans:
I really enjoy seeing how we can make an impact
on other people's lives. It's pretty amazing to
see that. I think everyone on the show really
does appreciate what the fans do. A lot of the
times they go out of their way to show how much
they like the show or how much they enjoy
themselves. We owe a lot to the fans. So, THANK
YOU EVERYBODY!
After MMC:
I have a lot of things I'd like to do in my life.
I'd like to act, because this show has given me a
new found love for acting. Be it motion picture
or sitcom, we'll see what lies ahead, but I have
a lot of things that I want to do when I get
older.
Your Biggest
Influence:
My mom. She's been a pretty big influence in my
life.
Free Time:
I like to read. I like to drive when people let
me. I have my permit, but I'm not quite driving
yet. So, when people let me drive, that's the
thing I really enjoy doing. As of the 9th of
November, I have like 6 months. So, I'm almost
there.
The Perfect
Girl:
She has to have a good personality, a good sense
of humor. I'm not gonna say that looks aren't
important, but they're not the key thing that
interests me in a girl. So, a good sense of
humor, and just the ability to have a really good
time is something I look for in a
girl.
Would You Date A
Fan?:
I'm not gonna rule out anybody, because I've met
fans of the show who are really great, who are a
lot of fun. It just depends on the
person.
On Each Other:
Ryan's definitely a guy who likes to have fun.
He's always cracking jokes. He's always laughing.
He's a lot of fun to be around. He's fun to watch
when he gets in his comedic moods. Rhona, like
Ryan, enjoys having fun and making people laugh,
which is actually
something a lot of us cast members of the show
do. For some reason (laughs), that's a part of
everyone's life. Rhona's got a lot charisma.
She's got a lot of talent.
Matt On The
Environment:
I think it's many situations. I know a lot of
people who really do look out for the environment
and do things in their house that benefit the
environment, but I also know some people who say,
"Save the planet, save the whales, don't cut
trees down," but they really don't go out and
make a difference. I believe, if you're going to
say it, stick to it.
Matt's handwriting
analysis:
You are a stand-up comedian of the year. Put on a
dramatic costume and thrill the masses. You're a
natural ham with a great sense of humor and
mischief.
Every Mouseketeer
except one picked Matt for:
..Is most likely to sing in the shower
loudly
Matt quotes: " I
had these really big
bell-bottoms on", says Matt. When he ran out on
stage, "My foot caught in the bell-bottom. Then
my foot got caught in the curtain and I went
down. Boom -- right on stage!"
Matt says when he gets gifts from fans: " I don't
expect it, so when I get something, it's really
cool".
A "Personal Add" from BOP in
'93:
6', 14-YEAR-OLD SINGER WITH HAZEL EYES seeks
girl with great sense of humor. Must laugh at my
jokes as well as at my mom's. No particular look
necessary - blondes, brunettes, etc. fine. Pretty
eyes a must. If you have really cool mystical
eyes and like to laugh, you're the one for me.
Call Matt.
ON The MMC serial
"Emerald Cove" Matt Morris plays "Matt Harper".
Matt Morris' character is new to MMC this season.
Here he is introducing his character: "My
character's name is Matt [how appropriate!]
Harper, and I'm a keyboard player. He's just a
fun loving guy, very affectionate."
When asked.. Jennifer McGill of MMC said that
she would leave MATT "All my Tori Amos stuff" If
she were never to see Matt again.
Kind of girls he goes for: "Someone with a good
personality"
Message: "Keep Your dreams in focus-anything can
happen!"
If MATT could leave his character anything, he
would leave him with the keyboards, because,
"music is probably the most important thing in my
life, and it was important to my character
also."
MATT on his best memories: "The time spent with
everybody after the cameras weren't on, because
they are my family. We'd just go hang out
anywhere. I really miss them a lot when I'm away
from shooting."
"Don't beg for friendship": "I don't believe that
anyone should have to beg for friendship.
Friendship is something that is earned."
"He'll grow up one day": "Guys go through stages
of only being interested in beauty and not
personality- take it from one who had gone
through a few stages!"
"Talk to your parents": You need to realize that
your parents probably care for you a lot and
they're only looking out for your best interests.
Hey, trust me-I know how it is to be told I can't
do things because of my age. I've learned that if
you talk to your parents and try to compromise
with them, things will eventually work out for
the best."
"The best day of my life is tomorrow"
"I have sisters" claims Matt. "My sisters are
Rhona, Jennifer and Nita." " We are all one big
happy family"
"This album kinda lets people know what we're all
about. We really hope that everybody likes
it."
---When Rhona and I first met, [she] was like,
"Get that little boy away from me! Put some duct
tape over his mouth!" But now, I think that both
of us have grown up and matured."
